My experiences with TAI CHI CHUAN?

I've been studying Yang and Chen styles of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong(Chi Kung)since 1994. I used to be plagued with back problems and job stress. Tai Chi and Qi breathing have become a great stress reliever. The flexibility and renewed energy I gain from practicing Tai Chi Chuan is terrific. I have not had any serious back problems since I started practicing Tai Chi. I also found that regular Tai Chi practice improved my balance and increased lower body strength and overall stamina.

What is Tai Chi Chuan ?

Tai Chi Chuan is one of the three Chinese internal Martial arts. More than a decade ago the People's Republic modified the Yang style and turned it into a general exercise for a diverse population with much of its Martial application removed and not taught with the forms. Fortunately for me, my primary teacher since 1994 has been Sifu Huang, Keo Wei.He has taught me the both exercise form and the martial arts aspects of tai chi. Further, Qi energy flows through me during this practice, which helps balance my body energetically.

Whether practiced for its Martial applications or for basic exercise, Tai Chi Chuan is composed of a series of movements or forms. These movements flex joints and muscles throughout the body, which in turn massage and open various acupuncture points (Chi channels) and organs within the body. This helps promotes the flow of Chi energy within the body. While Tai Chi maintains our health Qigong(Chi Kung) enhances and rejuvenates our health.

Classes in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan

In 2000 my teacher gave me permission to start teaching students in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. I teach two styles of classes

  • A modified version of the simplified 24 form set to seniors and for those who balance issues, or physical limitations with range of motion.

  • The traditional 108 Yang style form - This style begins with basic form work and then  integrates more suble techniques such as rooting, silk reeling (chan ssu gong) , some push hands training (Tui Shou), concepts of the three nails and four bows, breath and energy work, and martial applications pertaining to forms.
